How i get my Ski fix

media meditation 3
www.newschoolers.com is what freestyle skiers rely on. Newschoolers has everything skiing from articles, photos, videos, blogs, forums, and even product reviews. All skiers check newschoolers at least once a day, and everyone has a username and profile. This winter since I broke my leg newschoolers was how I kept myself in the loop on everything skiing.
The website has to do with the epistemological shift in our 21st century media culture. I would say that newschoolers has progressed the sport of freestyle skiing greatly because of its ability to use images. Ten years ago if you wanted to see freestyle skiing you would have to either purchase a movie or go to a mountain and watch it happen in person. Now we have newschoolers. The website gives anybody the ability to post a video, whether its a kid or a pro filmer, it doesn't matter. Then you can rate videos and the best videos from everyday are shown on the home page. Also they have the same thing for photos and even have photo themed contest every once and a while. This has helped our sport progress because I can now watch a whole different variety of edits and never run out of videos to watch. This has progressed the sport because it gives everyone the opportunity to see whats going on in the world of freestyle skiing and keeps updated with everything going on in the ski community.
I would call newschoolers the facebook of freestyle skiing. On page 53 in our book it talks about social networking. Social networking sites allow people to have profiles and stay in contact with their friends. Newschoolers does the same thing. You can have a profile and have friends. Also you can message people and upload pictures and videos for others to see. Facebook keeps me in touch with all of my friends and what they are doing with their lives. Newschoolers keeps me updated on everything in the skiing world, including what ski related things my friends are doing. If I would want to see some of Joey Szela's Juice video, I could go to his newschoolers page and watch all of them. Newschoolers is my favorite social networking website.
Newschoolers is my favorite form of media. It helped me all this winter not be bummed out about how i couldn't ski. I watched so many edits everyday the first couple weeks into my injury. Newschoolers is how everyone in the ski community stays in touch and connected with everything goign on in the world of freestyle skiing.

  1. ...And Vermont loves you, Jack.

Good blogging work this semester - ooo, you are so close to 20 followers - and way to keep up your spirits despite your busted up leg.

I hope you will continue to blog beyond this class.

    Enjoy your summer!
